Chachapoyas occurs as city within northern Peru. These are a capital of the Amazonas Region and the Chachapoyas Province. At an elevatiin of 2234 meters (7,657 feet), a city is placed on a tableland above the Urubamba River. the city has a population of more or less 17,000 people. Placed in a mountains far from either either the Peruvian coast, Chachapoyas remains fairly isolated from more regions of Peru. There exists every day service by bus to Chiclayo and Cajamarca. Although there is a local airdrome, flight service is limited.

Local industries include agriculture, sugar cane, orchidaceous plant & coffee growing.
